Acro – Senior industrial designer / design manager

Crawley, UK

Acro, a leading designer and integrated manufacturer of award-winning passenger seats for some of the world’s leading airlines,is looking for an experienced industrial designer to join the business and support them in reinventing the design process with the core focus on producing comfortable, robust, maintained seats that are lightweight and produced at the right price. This is a fantastic opportunity for an industrial designer to join the business and lead the future in product design for the range of seats by working closely alongside the engineering team and wider business departments.

Key responsibilities;

• Act as the product champion and voice of the passenger within the design process
• Capture and document product requirements
• Develop design briefs for and then work with external design agencies to create product design concepts that fulfil the company product plan
• Create and manage physical models/prototypes of concepts which are often outsourced
• Taking a hands-on approach is an essential part of the role
• Lead collaboration with the design engineering and supply chain to ensure design concepts meet requirements
• Maintain design integrity throughout the engineering design phases by participating in regular design engineering reviews
• Develop product customization strategies for each seat type, defining baseline and cost option features, including standard dress cover designs and finish ranges that meet commercial needs
• Manage the production of product renderings, models and photography to support sales and marketing

To be successful in this position you will have/be:
• A strong background within Industrial / Product Design with a relevant product or industrial design degree qualification or similar
• A true passion for product development with a creative, inventive, collaborative and ideas driven approach
• Excellent motivation to lead the design process and collaborate internally throughout its differing phases 
• Key client stakeholder management, presentation and delivery experience skill with a strong desire to make a difference and support the key vision of creating furniture for passengers rather than aircraft equipment
• Relative PC / Software skills and design drafting experience
• Happy to travel on an international basis to liaise direct with key customers
