Delta celebrates massive IFE milestone

July 13 2017 – This month has seen Delta install its 500th aircraft with seatback IFE systems – and it is not done yet, with a commitment in place to complete installations on more than 600 aircraft by the end of 2018.

“Delta offers customers more aircraft with seatback entertainment than any airline in the world,” stated Tim Mapes, Delta’s SVP and chief marketing officer.

Joining the celebrations is Panasonic, Delta’s IFE partner in this huge project, which is also enabling system content – an environment named Delta Studio – which can also be streamed to passengers’ personal devices on the airline’s entire mainline fleet, as well as all two-class aircraft.

Below: The IFE initiative is part of the Delta's multi-billion dollar investment in the customer experience, which includes a cabin modernization program. The program brings in new seats (including the new Delta One suite, pictured), access to wi-fi on nearly all flights, upgraded catering, Alessi-designed serviceware, and noise-canceling headphones

“Customers tell us that investing in entertainment – whether it’s adding more seatback screens, offering free entertainment or expanding high-speed wi-fi – is important, so we will continue leading the industry in making these enhancements on board,” Mapes said. “We recognize that Delta customers multi-task, using multiple screens throughout their day, and want to provide choice and flexibility for them to decide how they want to spend their time inflight.”

Delta Studio offers up to 300 movies, including recent box office hits (refreshed monthly) and more than 100 foreign titles, 750 TV shows, 2,000 songs, up to 18 channels of live satellite TV on select aircraft, and a selection of games on aircraft with seatback IFE systems.
