Kits these days

After some 40 years within the aircraft industry, I have virtually retired apart from infrequent visits to Asia. I was, at one time, traveling 280 days a year!

I was interested to see an article on aircraftinteriorsinternational.com advising that Lufthansa will shortly be proving Jil Sander amenity kits in business class, and later also in first class.

Nobody ever chose an airline on the basis of the quality of its amenity kits. The best Lufthansa business class kits were very basic but were contained within a shoe bag, which everyone found useful. The Lufthansa first class Rimowa boxes are also good, while Cathay Pacific had metal boxes filled with L'Occitane en Provence products decades ago. But try as they might, the kits from British Airways and most other airlines are fairly tacky to say the least.

A basic kit containing the essentials is fine, especially if airlines can then spend more time on the food and service.
